Dr. Peyman Khaljani, LL.M. (Amsterdam)
A personal insight into my journey to becoming a lawyer and the experiences that shape my work.
For me, the law provides the framework within which people can freely shape their lives. Those who know their rights also know their possibilities — and their limits. A reliable rule of law is therefore one of the essential foundations for a peaceful and self-determined society.
This conviction has guided me since the beginning of my legal career.
Law. Europe. Perspectives.
I grew up speaking two languages and with two cultural perspectives. My parents are from Iran, and German and Persian are my native languages.
People view situations and social issues from different perspectives, and these perspectives are shaped to a significant extent by each person’s background.
This outlook continues to shape me to this day. It has taught me the importance of listening, understanding different points of view, and not being too quick to judge matters solely from one’s own perspective.
Today, this is an integral part of my understanding of good legal counseling.
A Mosaic of Cultures
My interest in other countries and cultures has been a constant throughout my life. During my studies, I spent a semester abroad in Santiago de Chile and travelled through parts of South America.
I have a particular interest in European law. The European Union brings together law, politics and society in a unique way. I have also explored these questions academically: I completed my doctoral degree in European Union law in Hamburg and subsequently earned a Master’s degree in European law in Amsterdam.
Professionally, I have gained experience from a range of perspectives — alongside teaching, at the European Commission, in legal journalism, and in intellectual property and trademark law at an international law firm.
Internationally shaped
In 2026, I was admitted to the bar in Hamburg. With Dr. Khaljani Legal, I seek to realise my own vision of legal counsel: precise, empathetic and clear.
My multilingual background, international experience and academic training are integral to what I bring to my work.
